VOICE OVER EQUIPMENT & TOOLS
The tools Matt uses to structure your sound and bring your content to life
Microphone: Sennheiser MKH 416
The Hollywood mic. Used by all the voice-over pros. Amazing sound. Extremely low self-noise (quiet), its super-cardioid pattern rejects sound off-axis incredibly well. Reaches out and grabs your voice, which then cuts through any mix and bursts through the speakers.

Also in Matt's microphone locker, and can be used by request: Neumann U-87, Neumann TLM 103, RE-20.

Audio Interface: Audient iD14

10-in/4-out USB Desktop Audio Interface with 2 Class A Mic Preamps - both with individual 48v phantom power toggle. Plays nice with your DAW of choice.

Matt also has a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (2nd Gen), but primarily uses the iD14.

Digital Audio Workstation (DAW): Adobe Audition
While the ProTools vs. Adobe Audition debate rages on, Matt feels the latter is the clear winner for exceptional voice-over recording, editing, mixing, and mastering.

Voice Processor: Symetrix 528e
A high-quality microphone preamp coupled to a three-band parametric equalizer, a de-esser, and a dynamic range processor, with the ability to bypass for those agency voiceover sessions who want your voice "dry".

A classic that has been discontinued. Find one used on eBay, if at all possible.

Yogi Throat Comfort Tea
Matt's secret weapon. Sipped and gargled daily to soothe the throat after those long character voice sessions. Steep for 10 minutes, gently squeeze the teabag, and enjoy. Add honey for extra coating. Your throat, and voice, will thank you.
